Время как меч

Вот глубокомысленная арабская фраза. С. был так добр, что перевёл её и откомментировал. А А. поправил.

الوقت كالسيف إن لم تقطعه قطعك

ʔal-waqtu ka-s-sayfi ʔin lam taqṭaʕ-hu qaṭaʕa-ka

Time is like a sword, if you don't cut it — it cuts you.

al-waqtu
the time (u case because itʼs the head of a nominal sentence)
k-
like, resembles; как, подобно (it never stands alone; A k-B)
assaifi
the sword
ʼin
if
lam
not/did not
ta-qṭaʕ-h(u)
you cut him
ta- isnʼt a pronoun, but itʼs the way verbs conjugate around the pronoun forms for you
anta ta-qṭaʕ = you cut
-h(u) is an «attatched» pronoun that can refer to an object or a person (male); the female version is -haa
qṭaʕ is the verb cut, with the root being Qaaʕa
qaṭaʕa-k
cut you (past tense)
-k is an attached pronoun for «you»
the plain conjugation of qaṭaʕa implies he/it cuts you
ya-qṭaʕu-k would be the present tense equivalent; huwa ya-qṭaʕ
